Heirok residents call for NRC before census

Joining in the clarion call for the demand of implementation of National Register of Citizens (NRC) before census exercise, residents of Heirok Part III staged a protest demonstration on the evening of September 8 .
The protestors formed a human, held torches and shouted slogans.
The protest demonstration was carried out in support of the Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation (JFD) demand for updation of NRC before census, said a press release by the Joint Committee, 7 Clubs Heirok Part III.
Youth Development Club, Heirok Part 111, Litan Wangma along with the meira paibis of the region in coordination with the local clubs namely Youth Development Club (YDC), Nongpok Ningthou Panthoibi Youth Club (NNPYC), Kabo Leikai Development Association (KDA), Tourangbam Leikai Youth Club (TLYC), Heirok Development Club (HDC), Youth Brilliants Club (YBC) and Khuman Youth Development Club (KYDC) organized the protest demonstration.
Speaking on the sidelines, Youth Development Club secretary B Deva Shanna said that the residents carried out the protest in line with JFD's demand for updation of NRC before census.
He maintained that the fulfilment of the demand is crucial for the protection and security of the indigenous communities of the State.
He went on to state that the local clubs and residents of Heirok will extend full support towards JFD's campaign to ensure that NRC is updated before conducting any form of census exercise.
During the protest, placards which read 'No NRC No Census', 'Make 1951 the base year for NRC, 'Save Manipur, Update NRC, 'Identify Illegal Immigrants', 'Save Manipur from the Outsiders' were used by the protestors and similar slogans were shouted.
