Governor visits Senapati, meets CSOs, assures assistance

Governor Anusuiya Uikey visited Senapati district today and interacted with representatives of various civil society organisations (CSOs), women bodies and students' organisations in the district.
She heard their grievances and assured to extend all possible assistance in the best interest of the people and development of the district, said a release issued by PRO Raj bhavan.
On her arrival at the district headquarter in Senapati town, the Governor was accorded a warm welcome by the Deputy Commissioner, Mamoni Doley, Superintendent of Police, Anupam and other officials along with representatives of CSOs and the people.
The Governor interacted with representatives of Naga People's Organisation, Senapati.
Zeliangrong Union, Senapati Zone, Maram Union, Senapati, Senapati District Women Association, All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM), Senapati District Students Association, Senapati District Olympic Association and Indian Red Cross Society, Senapati District Branch.
The civil bodies & societies raised issues pertaining to the development of the district including setting up of a medical college in Senapati district, construction of multipurpose hall, upgradation of Don Bosco College, Maram to a full-fledged university, setting up of a rehabilitation centre for the drug affected youths as a part of drug surveillance programme, functioning of blood bank in the district hospital and upgradation of Astro Turf, Senapati.
ANSAM raised concerns over the Centre's decision to fence the Indo-Myanmar border while IRCS requested the Governor for providing an ambulance.
The bodies submitted memoranda to the Governor and urged her to extend all possible help in the interest of the tribal people in the district.
They also requested the Governor to convey their message to the Centre that Union Ministers should pay a visit to the hill districts.
While giving them a patient hearing, the Governor said that the Government is committed to develop the hill districts in the State and many welfare measures have been introduced.
She assured to extend all possible assistance for the welfare of the people in the district.
The Governor also enquired about developmental .activities taken up in the district and asked the DC to submit a detailed report in this regard.
Later, the Governor witnessed the spectacular final match of the 3rd Edition of Lt Col(late) Robert TA Memorial Open Football Tournament being played at Astro Turf Ground in Senapati district headquarter and distributed prizes.
The tournament was hosted by 16 Assam Rifles in memory of Lt Col (late) Robert TA.
Notably, in the final match, United Brothers FC (Ukhrul) beat Taphou FC (Senapati) by a 4-3 goals.
The Governor handed over a cheque of Rs 3,00,000 & trophy to United Brothers FC while a cheque of Rs 1.5 lakh & trophy was presented to Taphou FC.
She also felicitated the wife of Lt Col (late) Robert TA, P Chingpei and their two daughters.
Mao AC MLA Losii Dikho and IGAR (East) Major General VK Nambiar also attended the grand finale which was witnessed by around 11,000 people.
