Meitei Leima calls for mass sit-in protest on Feb 21

Maintaining that the village volunteers have left their homely comfort to fight for safeguarding the territorial integrity of Manipur as the government failed to do the needful, Meitei Leima stated that the government should not arrest or cause inconveniences to the village volunteers.
It also appealed the public, to stage sit-in protest agitation across the state on February 21 to showcase that mothers of Manipur stand firmly for the village volunteers.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Saturday, Meitei Leima convenor Salam Prabhavati Devi reminded all concerned that the village volunteers took up any available weapons to save the lives and properties of the Meeteis from the attacks of armed Kuki militants, and also to uphold the territorial integrity of Manipur.
In recognition of the valour and commitment of the village volunteers the government should abstain from any act that could demoralise protectors of the fringe Meetei villages, she stressed.
With reference to the case registered against village volunteers and handing it over to NIA, she further said that the village volunteers have been fighting at the frontline against the Kuki-Chin-Zo militants who are attacking Meetei villages and destroying properties and killing innocent people.
Therefore, the state government should abandon the concept of penalising the village volunteers.
Prabhavati also stated that the mothers of Manipur stand united for the sake of village volunteers.
To show that the mothers would protect the village volunteers and that no one can harm them, a mass sit-in protest agitation will beheld across the state on February 21 from 11 am to 3pm, she reiterated and appealed to all concerned to take part in the protest agitation and shout slogans like "Our sons cannot be arrested", "Abrogate SoO with the Kuki narco-terrorists immediately", ''Mothers will not remain silent when their sons are in trouble", etc.
