Kuki militants bombard Sugnu for 4th consecutive day, BSF jawan injured

Sugnu lately has become a soft target of Kuki militants as Meitei villages in the area have been bombed and attacked for the fourth consecutive day, leaving one BSF personnel injured.
The injured BSF personnel has been identified as Som Dutt (46) from Himachal Pradesh and he is a Head Constable.
Notably, the Kuki militants have been attacking Sugnu from Lailoiphai and Dongyang village of Churachandpur district since February 14 .
According to sources, Kuki militants started raining bullets and shelling bombs towards Sugnu Mayai Leikai, Sugnu Makha Leikai and Sugnu Awang Leikai last night at around 8 after a brief lull in the gunfight which has been going on since February 14 with regular intervals.

Some structures were damaged in the attack.
Kuki militants also targeted personnel of BSF stationed at Sugnu Higher Secondary School.
The sources further stated that Kuki militants fired dozens of 81 mm mortar and 51 mm mortar shells and pompi bombs, apart from firing indiscriminately using medium machine guns toward Sugnu Meitei villages and BSF personnel.
The security forces also retaliated and the gunfight went on for the whole night.
Locals especially elders, children and women have fled to safer locations.
The sources continued that Kuki militants also attacked Tangjeng Khunjao from the nearby village in Churachandpur district.
One Head Constable of 136 Battalion of Border Security Force, D Company sustained bullet injury on his left shoulder while he was on duty at Sugnu Makha Leikai at around 7.40 am today.
The BSF couldn't evacuate the injured personnel immediately as they were under heavy attack.
He was taken to the Sugnu Health Centre only after the arrival of the reinforcement team and the health centre referred him to Shija Hospitals.
The injured personnel has been discharged.
Tension is still high at Sugnu though there is no report of any other injury on the side of security forces and village volunteers.
Sources also said that there might be some casualties on the side of Kuki militants in retaliatory firing.
