46th LAGSA Meet: Boljang, Dongjang and Western Valley lift trophies

Chandel, January 30 2014:
Boljang Students' Union clinched the Men's Football Championship title of the 46th LAGSA Meet 2014 which concluded on January 29 at Pu Khupjam Memorial Ground, Khopijam village under Chakpikarong Sub division in Chandel District.
In the same meet, Deaw Union Dongjang and Western Valley Area team won the title for Junior Boys' football Championship title and Women's Volleyball Champion of the year respectively.
Boljang students' Union lifted the Championship trophy by beating Lamkhoson & Nemchin Memorial Team (LNMT) 5-3 in a penalty shoot-out following a 2-2 tie in the normal time of the final match.
Boljang opened their first goal in the 1st minute of the match.
However, LNMT managed to equalize the score in the 40th minute.
Yet again, BSU netted a goal in the 42nd minute.
But LNMT's striker Thangtinlen (Jersey No 9) kicked a goal in the last minute to equalize score and the match ended in 2-2 tie.
As no party could score against each other in the extra-time added, the winner was decided through penalty shootout wherein Boljang players turned out to be the better of the two and walked home with the Championship Trophy and a cash prize of Rs 50000 as well as certificates.
The runner-up team LNMT was also given a Trophy along with cash prize of Rs 30000 and certificates.
The third and fourth place were won by Khopimun and LYGSEDA team respectively.
Khopimun received a cash prize of Rs 15000, a trophy and certificates while the fourth position holder LYGSEDA got a prize of Rs 5000 .
On the other hand, winner of the Junior Boys' Football Champion, Deaw Union Dongjang which defeated Aihang Youth Club 2-1 in the final match won a cash prize of Rs 20000 along with a trophy and certificates while the runner up team Aihang Youth club was given cash prize of Rs 15000, a trophy and certificates.
Western Valley Area bagged the Women's Volley ball Championship title after beating Nungpan Youth Club and won a cash prize of Rs 20000 along with a trophy and certificates.
The runner up team Nungpan got Rs 15000, a trophy and certificates.
Jod and Thangtinlen of LNMT, Seiboi of LYGSEDA and Mangentung of Sajiktampak were also honoured with the award of Best goalkeeper, Top scorer, Best Player and a hat trick in the Men's category respectively while Anthony of Jonidar, Manginlal of Aihang, Thangminlen of Deaw Union and Manginlal bagged the Best goalkeeper, Top scorer, Best Player and a hat trick award in the Junior's category respectively.
The LAGSA Meet 2014 was organized by Lonpi Area Games & Sports Association Chandel district under the theme 'Play the game in the spirit of the game' .
The closing function was attended by MLA of 41- Chandel A/C St Nunghlung Victor as Chief Guest.
After the prize distribution by MLA, LAGSA flag was lowered to mark closure of the meet formally.
