Imphal, January 30 2014:
As part of its campaign for proper implementation of Right to Education Act in the State, the Manipur Alliance for Child Rights has filed a complain to Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights against some unaided private schools for imposing a cut-off mark as eligibility criteria for admission to Class I and Class II .
A statement issued by the MACR cited that Section 13 of Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 prohibits any screening procedures.
In its representation to the MCPCR, the MACR urged to take immediate action so that any child/student of eligible age is considered to take part in the lottery for admission to the schools irrespective of marks the intending students scored in the last examination.
According to the MACR, the private schools which imposed such cut-off mark are Nirmalabus HS, Catholic School, Canchipur, St Joseph's School and Little Flower School.
