Martyrs Day observed solemnly

Imphal, January 30 2014:
Manipur joined the Nation in the observance of Martyrs' Day today with the main observance function marking the 66th death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi organised by the Government of Manipur at Gandhi Memorial Hall here.
Besides Governor Vinod kumar Duggal leading the gathering in laying floral wreaths at the statue of the Father of the Nation being installed at GM hall, a momentary silence was observed by the dignitaries amid the blaring sounds of siren.

Soon after the Governor was welcomed by the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh at the observance venue where the 1st Manipur Rifles band party played the National Anthem followed by patriotic numbers sung by artistes of Government Music College.
The GM Hall event was also attended by Deputy CM Gaikhangam, Ministers and MLAs, Chief Secretary, DGP and top civil and security force officials.
MPCC also organised the day at Congress Bhavanwherein the CM, DyCM, Congress legislators, party leaders and workers offered floral tributes at Gandhi's statue.
Interacting with newspersons on the sidelines of the function, Gaikhangam stating that the Government of Manipur will warmly welcome the visit of BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi also announced that foolproof security arrangements will be provided to the BJP leader.
