The total population of Moyons in Manipur is just around 5000.Although a small minority in terms of population, Moyons have a distinct culture, history, mode of governance, customs, languages, dresses, folk songs, folk dance and socio-religious practices, Gina said.
It was in 1922 Moyons stated embracing Christianity.
Now Moyons are all Christians.
One of the landmark events in the history of Moyons was the formation of a women organisation under the leadership of late Cr Berang in 1940 at Khungjuur (Khongjon) village.
Their activities were disrupted due to the World War II.
The same organisation was revived in the same village with Sb Chongnoubi Moyon and R Tusha Moyon and it's main objective is to uplift women's status.
The same organisation would celebrate its diamond jubilee next year, she added.
