Manipur kick off campaign with 15 medals

Imphal, November 11 2022:
Manipur kick-started their campaign with 15 medals including six gold in the 2nd North East Olympic Games 2022 at Shillong, Meghalaya on Friday.
On the day, the state team bagged six gold, six silver and three bronze medals across archery, cycling, swimming and taekwondo competitions.
ARCHERY: N Subhachandra Meitei, Ch Nelson Singh and L Rojina Devi shone for the state by winning gold med als.
Subhachandra won his yellow metal in the men's individual recurve event as Nelson triumphed in men's individual Indian round event for his gold and Rojina sealed her gold in women's Indian round competition.
On the other hand, M Baby Devi (women's Indian round) and T Sen Meitei (men's recurve) claimed a silver medal each.
CYCLING: Khundrakpam Ronel Singh and AZ Thotmachan claimed to podium honours for Manipur.
Ronel won the gold medal in the cross country elite men event where Meghalaya's Kevinjohn Khyllait finished second and Mizoram's Mesak Vanlalvena took the bronze.
Another state cyclist Thotmachan, on the other hand, was the top finisher in the cross Country junior men contest as Meghalaya's Pynshailang Khyllait bagged the silver and Mizoram's Vanlalruata settled for the bronze.
SWIMMING: The state team made the most of the day in terms of medal count by claiming seven medals including one gold.
Ningombam Jeson Meitei secured the gold medal in the men's 50m breast stroke event while fellow Moirangthem Thouba Meitei finished behind for the silver and Assam's Mringanga Gogoi took the bronze.
Laitonjam Jessica Chanu settled for silver medal in the women's 100m back-stroke while Dekalu Th Panmei bagged bronze medal in women's 100m freestyle.
In team event* the state quartet of S Punshiba Meitei, L lanchenba Ksh Dev Raj and S Athouba bagged silver medal in the men's 4x50m freestyle relay, while the team of Siddhika Hoidrom, Hatnunnem Haokip, Laitonjam Jessica Chanu and Dekalu Th Panmei earned silver medal in women's 4x50m freestyle relay.
TAEKWONDO: RK Liokanta Singh (poomsae individual junior boys' event) and Pusha Tolly Mangs hatabam (poomsae individual senior girls') bagged a bronze each.
