Imphal, November 11 2022:
All Manipur Muslim (Meitei-Pangal) Welfare Association (AMMPWA) observed National Education Day in commemoration of the first Education minister of independent India Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, at Masjid Complex, Hatta, here, on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, retired IAS officer AR Khan, who is also the president AMMPWA, remarked that since the BJP came to power in the country, the observance of National Education Day is no longer included as a calendar event except for the first year of its term.
This blatant ignorance of such a renowned educationist is unfortunate, he said, while stressing the importance of remembering the first education minister of independent India.
Stating that the event would be more meaningful with the government's support, AR Khan reminded all concerned that Maulana Abul Kalam Azad played an important role in India's freedom struggle and was an ardent follower of Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Jawaharlal Nehru.
After independence, he (Abul) set up many educational infrastructures in the country for the future generations including helping in the establishment of University Grant Commission (UGC), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Indian Institute of Science (IIS) and Jamia Millia University.
The observance was also attended by former principal secretary MA Sattar (retired IAS), AMMPWA vice president Md Akhtar Hussain, Manipur State Minority Commission ex-chairperson Dr Syed Burhanuddin, Hafiza Masjid Imam Maulana Md Firoz and others.
As part of the observance, a pre-matric course scheme for orphaned kids was launched by AMMPWA.
