Imphal, November 11 2022:
Local residents of Uyumpok under the aegis of Uyumpok Development Committee (UDC) organised a sit-in protest at the local community hall on Friday opposing the move to 'annex' the village into Kangpokpi/Sadar Hills district.
Interacting with the media at the protest site, UDC secretary Oinam Chakritombi demanded the government to keep a clear cut district boundary between Kangpokpi/Sadar Hills and Imphal East district in order to avoid any misunderstandings.
The villagers, cannot accept or tolerate any attempt to include their village into another district, he said and also asserted that the proposed Sadar Hill Region map circulated among the people includes several valley areas, which they would neither accept nor allow associated process.
He further appealed to the government to take up appropriate security measures to prevent cadres of SoO group from roaming freely with arms and threatening the public.
Demanding the government to form district boundary commission and clearly define the district boundaries at the earliest, the secretary warned of launching different forms of agitation if the government does not take up necessary steps in this regard.
