Imphal, November 11 2022:
Family of deceased Yarnam Haorei (22), son of Ngasomi Haorei of Chingai village, Ukhrul district has requested chief minister N Biren Singh to constitute a special investigation team (SIT) to probe into his alleged murder.
In a memorandum submitted to the CM on Friday, victim's father Ngasomi Haorei and uncle Pamshon Haorei contended that Yarnam Haorei, who was employed as excavator driver by Mingthing Horam of New Tusom village, Jessami in Ukhrul district, was murdered by Ranjit Gola of Assam, who is married to a woman of New Tusom village, and Eyepe Wezah of Jessami village, while they were travelling in a tipper truck driven by Ranjit Gola on November 5 .
All of them worked under Mingthing Horam and a scuffle broke out between them at Soraphung-Tusom Junction when Yarnam refused to replace the punctured tyre of the tipper in which they were travelling in.
Yarnam had even called his mother telling her that he was assaulted by them and his life was in danger.
On receiving call from the victim's mother, Mingthing Horam had reportedly sent a group comprising his son Chihanmi Horam and three others to look into the matter, it mentioned.
The memorandum continued that on November 6, Ngasomi Haorei visited Mingthing Horam's residence at New Tusim village where the accused were also present and admitted that a scuffle broke out after Yarnam refused to replace the flat tyre as told by Ranjit.
The victim's father asked his son's employer to conduct a search for him but after a commotion was heard that a body was found hanging in the jungle, Mingthing informed Ngasomi that his son was dead.
In this connection, the main accused Ranjit Gola and Eyepe Wezah have been arrested and an FIR registered against the accomplices namely, Mingthing Horam, son of (L) Chaoba Horam; Chihanmi Horam, son of Mingthing Horam; Rinsomi Horam, son of Peter Horam; AS Worchung, son of (L) AS Ngarai and his brother AS Wortam, all residents of New Tusom village for concealing the truth and protecting the two culprits, it said.
The memorandum further conveyed that the body was taken to Imphal on November 7 for post-mortem, but no report till date has been submitted, likely due to delay tactics of the department and other external influences.
As such, the family decided not to accept the body till justice is delivered, it emphasised, while requesting the government to take appropriate action and ensure justice is served.
