Mark Haokip's associate remanded

Demmoounmang Vaiphei alias Mang (25) s/o B Athang Vaiphei of Silon village, Bongphajol Loktak Project who is said to be a close associate of Mark Thang-mang Haokip, president of the Government of People's Democratic Republic of Kukiland (GPDRK), has been remanded in judicial custody till November 25 .
Mark Thangmang Haokip is presently lodged in Manipur Central Jail Sajiwa on the charge of waging/attempting to wage war against the Government of India after setting up a separatist organisation called Government of the People's Democratic Republic of Kukiland.
His associate Dem-moounmang Vaiphei alias Mang was arrested on November 6 .
A team of Imphal police station produced Dem-moounmang Vaiphei before the Court of Session Judge, Imphal West today after completion of the police custody period with a prayer for judicial custody remand.
On the other hand, the defence counsel of the accused filed remand objection and prayed for releasing the accused on bail.
According to the IO of the case, on preliminary interrogation Demmoounmang Vaiphei admitted the charges levelled against him and disclosed that he had conspired with Mark Thangmang Haokip and supported the idea of a separate Kukiland.
Demmoounmang Vaiphei also disclosed that he is a hardcore follower of Mark Thangmang Haokip.
During the course of investigation, it was established that the group also owns a website with the domain name www kukigovt.com to propagate their ideas and hatch conspiracy against the Govt.Many incriminating materials are found in the website and many of them are yet to be translated from Kuki dialect to English, the IO said.
A press release in the letterhead of the Government of People's Democratic Republic of Kukiland signed by Mark Thangmang Haokip and three other members has also been found.
Advocating that neighbouring countries must respect the sovereign right of Kukis and the struggle to establish a Kuki Nation, the group used various social media platforms and ran a Youtube channel with an intention to create hatred or contempt against other communities and amplify it as an instrument to mobilize people against the State, the IO said.
According to the IO, Demmoounmang Vaiphei took initiative in collecting funds and other assets for financing their separatist activities.
The Court, on perusal of the case record and after hearing the submission of the IO, remanded the accused in judicial custody till November 25 .
