Two arrested with WY tablets, brown sugar

As part of security measures taken up ahead of the Sangai Festival, a team of Imphal East district police commandos arrested a drug peddler on Thursday night.
The arrested peddler has been identified as Phundreibam Abdul Hadi alias Amu (35) s/o (L) Abdul Gafar Khan of Lilong Haoreibi Makha Leikai.
According to a police re port, the team was carrying out frisking and checking operation at Arapti Thongkhong at around 8.30pm, when a suspicious looking Maruti car-800 (MN 06 LA 3219) was halted for checking.
Around 1 lakh WY tablets were found inside the car.
The driver, Abdul Hadi alias Amu was subsequently arrested at around 10.05 pm and was later handed over to Irilbung PS along with the seized drugs, for necessary action.
Meanwhile, another police report informed that a team of Moreh police station arrested a man with 640gm of suspected brown sugar during an operation launched on Thursday evening.
The arrested man has been identified as Thangkhopao Kipgen (39) c/o Hensat Kipgen of Tuinom, Churachandpur.
As per the report, the team was carrying out routine checking at PVCP Khudengthabi at around 2.30 pm on Thursday, when a grey coloured Eeco Van (MN01 AS 0672) driven by Thangkhopao Kipgen was stopped.
On checking the inside of the vehicle, 14 soap cases of suspected to be brown sugar were found concealed inside the dash board and speaker system of the vehicle.
On questioning, Thangkhopao admitted that the brown sugar belonged to him and it was being transported from Moreh to Churachandpur.
The team recovered 14 soaps cases of brown sugar, weighing a total of 640gm and estimated to be worth around Rs 1.28 crore, along with one mobile phone and Rs 2970 in cash from his possession by observing necessary formalities.
