Traditional shawls and organic food catch customers' fancy

Ukhrul MLA Ramnganing Muivah on Monday inaugurated the three-day National Indigenous Products Expo at Town Hall Phungreitang, Ukhrul.
Cutting the ceremonial ribbon, he declared the expo open in the presence of MLA Thokchom Radheshyam, former Deputy Speaker MK Preshow Shimray, former MLA candidate Hopingson A Shimray, ADM Ukhrul Chunglenmang Kipgen and Ukhrul CSO leaders.
Speaking on the occasion, Ningchui G Shatsang Managing Director UHDF & MPI expressed that the main objective of the National Indigenous Products Expo is to promote local products and upscale local businesses by creating common marketing avenues in order to bring sustainable economic development in the district.
An array of locally made handicrafts, local garments, traditional attire and costumes, furniture, pottery, cane and bamboo products, ornaments and jewellery etc were put up for sale at the expo.
Food and beverages, wild fruit candies and pickles were available at a reduced price.
According to reports, most of the customers showed a preference for traditional shawls and organic food.
Altogether 58 stalls were set up and participants from Ukhrul, Senapati and Imphal partook in the three days National Indigenous Products Expo.
The programme will conclude tomorrow on November 30.The National Indigenous Products Expo was organised by Ukhrul Hills Development Foundation (UHDF), funded by PMS Scheme 5B by Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises MSME, Delhi Govt of India through MSME-DFO, Imphal.
