Farmers' awareness programme begins

A two-day farmers' awareness programme on 'Production Technology & Value Chain Development of Horticulture', organised by Rural Auxiliary for People's Action (RAPA), Lamding Nashikhong Leikai under the sponsorship of Central Institute of Agriculture (CIA), Medziphema near Dimapur in Nagaland for farmers of Ingourok under Thoubal district and Sotun village under Kamjong began from Tuesday at Ingourok community hall.
The inaugural function was attended by Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Thoubal district officer Mutum Nabachandra, RAPA vice president L Romen Meitei, CIA marketing specialist Prabin Das, Sotun village former chief P Thanmi and Ingourok Youth Club president M Itombi as presidium members.
Speaking at the programme, RAPA secretary L Subash explained that as farmers are not using new technology, they are unable to harvest sufficient yield compared to their hard toiling in the fields.
As such, the awareness programme has been organised to make the farmers aware about new technologies so that they can enhance their productivity with relative ease.
On the first day of the programme, KVK, Thoubal farm manager Dr W Jiten Singh spoke on 'Crop residue management as a nutrient source for organic farming', SMS Home Science Dr Rk Lembisana on 'Value addition of seasonal fruits' and SMS plant protection L Borish Singh on 'Integrated Pests & Disease Management of vegetable crops' as resource persons.
On Wednesday the programme will be held at Sotun village with HDO, Thoubal V Pradeep Singh scheduled to deliver a lecture on 'Horticulture Development Schemes', Horticulture Department's agriculture officer (SC) A K Somoyit on 'Integrated Pests & Disease Management of Vegetable Crops', and CIA marketing specialist Prabin Das on 'Marketing & Value Chain Development of Horticulture Crops' as subject experts.
