Workshop on gender violence held

Manipur State Rural Livelihood Mission organised a one-day state level workshop on campaign against gender-based violence' at Sangai Hall of Hotel Imphal, North AOC, here, on Tuesday.
Manipur State Commission for Women chairperson Salam Ulka, additional chief secretary (RD & PR) MH Khan and Social Welfare director Ngangom Uttam attended the programme as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Salam Ulka stressed the need for creating mass awareness on gender based violence among the people considering the global issue of rising gender crimes.
At the same time, awareness alone will not be enough to prevent such crimes but it will also need moral education at large scale, she said.
The chairperson also stressed on the need for mass participation in making the campaign against gender-based violence a public movement.
The technical sessions were held on the topic 'Identifying and acknowledging gender based violence' and 'Speak up and seek support'.
Subject experts on legal affairs and from different departments of the government such as social welfare, health, education, Manipur police, and MSCW spoke on the topics as resource persons.
