Social Welfare Minister highlights importance of developing 'Sports tourism' in State

Social Welfare Minister Heikham Dingo Singh underscored the importance of inculcating a hospitable attitude by the people of the State towards the tourists to make Manipur an attractive tourist destination.
He made the above statement while speaking at the valedictory function of 3rd Amateur Muay Thai Championship 2022 held in connection with the ongoing Sangai Festival 2022 today.
Expressing that Manipur is among the advanced States of the country in the field of Sports, he stressed on the need of developing sports like Muay Thai and other forms which are closely related with the people of the State.
Promotion of such sports will eventually contribute to the development of 'Sports tourism' thereby enhancing the State's income which will in turn create employment opportunities for many, he added.
The Minister further opined that the conduct of Sangai Festival at different venues across the State has helped in building emotional integrity among the various communities.
The huge turnout of the people in these venues is evident that the festival is being conducted successfully, he said.
Today's programme was also attended by Wangkhei AC MLA, Thangjam Arunkumar Singh; Manipur Tourism Director, W Ibohal Singh and Manipur Amateur Muay Thai Association (MAMTA) president, Dr TM Rajen Ayangba as the presidium members among others.
Prizes were distributed to Muay Thai players who emerged as winners during the championship in different categories.
