Imphal, November 29 2022:
The family members of a pregnant woman have accused the doctors and nurses at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) of dereliction of duty as an unborn child allegedly died in the mother's womb at the State run hospital at around 6.40 pm yesterday.
Reportedly, Machungongliu Kamei, w/o Kasangai Riamei from Nungadang (Goitang) village under Khoupum Sub-Division of Noney was admitted at the Ante-Natal Ward of JNIMS at around 1.30 pm yesterday for delivery.
Unfortunately, the unborn baby died at around 6.40 pm while the mother was taken to the ward at around 7 pm.
Anguished over the death of the unborn baby, the family members have lodged a complaint to the Medical Superintendent of JNIMS, accusing the doctors and nurses of negligence and to take actions against the 'erring officials'.
Addressing the media at Manipur Press Club today, father-in-law of Machungongliu, Thiulengpou Gangmei said that they came all the way from Khoupum to Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) with much hope and by trusting the doctors and staff of the healthcare institute but their hopes have been dashed.
Claiming that the doctors and nurses were careless and used abusive language while attending to his daughter-in-law who was in labour pain, Thiulengpou maintained that the demeanour shown by the doctors and nurses was unbecoming of their profession.
"They will never understand our feeling as it is not them who lost a child," he sighed and added that they will not claim the body until the "irresponsible" doctors and nurses are booked.
