Minister likens Manipur's tourism potential to Singapore

Social Welfare minister Heikham Dingo Singh observed that Manipur has great potential in tourism sector like Singapore which became a developed country driven by its tourism economy.
Speaking as chief guest at the closing function of 3rd Amateur Muay Thai Championship 2022 held at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex as part of Manipur Sangai Festival 2022 on Tuesday, minister H Dingo highlighted that although the state is lacking in resources, it has huge potential in tourism sector.
Manipur is blessed with endemic species and unique areas such as Sangai deer, Shirui Lily in Shirui hills, Loktak lake, etc.
On top of this, the climatic condition of the state is very suitable for tourism.
With such pleasant conditions, the state can generate huge income from tourism sector, the minister maintained while stressing that achieving the goal will rest on people of the state exhibition hospitality towards tourists coming from outside the state.
H Dingo continued that the state is known as powerhouse of sports in India despite its small population as the people are resilient and hard-working compared to other states.
He also opined that Muay Thai is very suitable sports for the people of the state.
Promoting such events will boost sports tourism which will not only improve economy of the state but also create employment opportunities for the youths, he added.
The minister also expressed his happiness that Manipur Sangai Festival has become a festival participated by all the communities of the state and has strengthen emotional integrity amongst them.
The huge crowds attending the event venues prove that the festival is a huge success, he added.
Praising chief minister N Biren, he further urged people to support the government led by the CM for bringing such emotional integrity in the state.
The event was also attended by Wangkhei MLA Thangjam Arunkumar, Manipur Tourism director W Ibohol Singh and Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association (MMTA) president Dr L Surjit, among others.
Later, prize distribution ceremony was held for the winners of the championship.
