World Mental Health Day observed

District Mental Health Programme, District Health Society, NHM Chandel in association with South East Manipur Higher Secondary School, Kapaam Village, Chandel district observed World Mental Health Day 2022 at the premises of the school on Tuesday.
Observed under the theme of " Make Mental Health and Well Being for All a Global Priority", the event was attended by Chandel deputy commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar as chief guest and Chandel District Hospital medical superintendent Dr Joyson Mathew Monsang as president while South East Manipur Higher Secondary School Village Governing Body member and South East Manipur College (SEMCO), Komlathabi assistant professor Sweety Roel Moyon was present as guest of honour.
School's principal Rumeensha Nguwuw Moyon, vice principal Langlom Albert, teachers and students also attended the observance.
Delivering the keynote speech, District Mental Health Programme, Chandel psychiatric social worker Dr M Sushilkumar pointed out that mental health is often ignored compared to physical health, thereby leading to unfortunate but avoidable consequences.
Attending as a resource person, District Mental Health Programme, Chandel nodal officer and District Hospital senior consultant psychiatrist Dr Khangembam Robindro explained about mental health issues, and said that mental health does not concern only the mentally impaired but is of many types.
99 out of 100 mental problems can be resolved with appropriate treatment, he said and emphasised the need for being physically, mentally and socially sound.
In his speech, DC M Rajkumar said that mental health is as equally important as physical health and as such, he urged all to try to be physically, mentally and spiritually sound.
Even if one is unable to avail health checkups regularly, they must try to get checked whenever possible and prevent putting any unnecessary pressure on their body, he asserted.
As part of the observance, an Open Quiz Competition for students was organised, followed by presentation of prizes to the winners of the competition.
