Imphal, March 31 2022:
The recent two-day nationwide general strike called by Central Trade Unions' Organisation and Samyukta Kishan Morcha against anti-people, anti-nation and anti-labour policies of the Modi government has strengthened unity among the farmers and workers, stated AITUC Manipur state council.
In a statement, AITUC Manipur general secretary L Sotinkumar said that several government employees challenged Essential Service Maintenance Act (ESMA) and supported the nationwide general strike on March 28 and 29 and it shows the increasing momentum of working class movement.
However, BMS, which is affiliated to RSS, did not participate in the general strike and it was a selfish act.
The new labour codes violate the rights of workers.
It is unfortunate that no labour convention has been organised since the BJP came to power, the statement said.
