Imphal, March 31 2022:
As part of nationwide protest by Indian National Congress (INC) against rise in prices of fuel, gas and other essential commodities under the BJP government, a sit-protest was organised by Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) at Congress Bhawan, BT road on Thursday.
The protesters decried that due to steep hike in prices of oil and LPG the people are unable to use gas cylinder and motor vehicles.
Speaking in connection to the protest, CLP leader Okram Ibobi recounted that Congress staged agitation for providing free vaccines during start of Covid-19 pandemic after BJP government planned to sell the vaccines to earn revenue.
Steep rise in prices of gas, petrol and diesel may not have much effect on rich people but for the common people who are surviving on daily income it has impacted them very much.
Congress will fight against any policy that will make life difficult for poor people, he asserted.
On the other hand, MPCC president K Meghachandra said that the BJP only knows how to loot the people.
At the time of election, pretending to be worried about people it did not raise the oil prices but as soon it was over fuel prices are being hiked on daily basis, he pointed out.
Rising prices has made people unable to buy fuel while those who received LPG connection under Ujjwala scheme are not able to afford refills.
Farmers are facing problems due to hike in fuel prices and passenger vehicles have increased their fares causing much financial discomfort to common people.
GST, income tax have burdened the life of people.
In such scenario, the public need to support the protest against a government which does not think about people, he emphasised.
