Public urged to take precaution against dementia

Integrated Rural Development and Educational Organisation (IRDEO), Regional Resource and Training Centre, AGNE programme officer Ashori Oinam has stated that with rising number of cases of dementia among senior citizens in present times, it is necessary for all to take precaution against the disease.
Speaking during the closing function of a three-day training programme on 'Dementia Care' organised by IRDEO in collaboration with National Institute of Social Defence (NISD) under Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment at IRDEO office, Wangbal on Thursday, Ashori Oinam informed that it has been holding awareness programmes on dementia from 2011 and has ensured that at least 50 per cent of elderly participants did not get affected by the disease.
People who are taking care of elderly citizens with dementia should join such training programme to get familiarised with the human service.
Elderly people should also take precautionary measures against the disease, he added.
During the programme, District Hospital (Chandel) MO Dr Gilbert Sunpi, PHC Oinam MO Dr Pritam Laishram and Sky Hospital and Research Centre Imphal senior consultant surgeon and anti-aging specialist Dr Kh Santi-kumar spoke as resource persons.
