3 held with drugs, poppy plants destroyed

Three people were arrested from different areas of Tengnoupal district and recovered contraband drugs worth crores of rupees from their possessions on Tuesday and Wednesday.
According to a police source, Tengnoupal district police nabbed two people during frisking at Tengnoupal police check post on Tuesday at about 4pm and recovered huge quantity of drugs.
The nabbed people were later identified as L Lamkhohao (25) son of Thongkholen Haokip of Songzangpang village, Churachandpur and Lungthengin alias Lun Nehemia Haokip (22) son of late Ngamsei Haokip of M Gangpijang Mata Lambulane, Churachandpur.
Police recovered 55 soap caps containing brown sugar and three soap caps containing WY tablets from the possession of Lamkhohao and Lungthengin.
On further search, police recovered one SBI debit card, one driving licence, one election ID, Aadhaar card, one mobile phone, one smart card for Chevrolet cell and Rs 500 in cash from the arrested duo.
The recovered brown sugar and WY tablets from Lamkhohao and Lungthengin would worth around Rs 1.57 crore and Rs 42.42 lakh respectively.
Both of them along with the recovered drugs and items have been handed over to Tengnoupal police station while cash reward had been handed over to the police team which nabbed them.
On the other hand, a joint team of Tengnoupal district police and Assam Rifles nabbed one person and recovered WY tablets worth nearly Rs 2 crore on Wednesday from Tengnoupal police check post.
The nabbed man has been identified as Jangkholun Kuki (31) son of Jamkhai Kuki of Songpi village, Churachandpur.
The joint security team recovered 10 packets containing WY tablets, one Bolero vehicle (AS-04B-3534), driving licence and Aadhaar card from the possession of Jangkholun, who along with the recovered contraband drug and other items has been handed over to Tengnoupal PS while cash reward given to the police team.
Meanwhile, a combined team of 22 AR Motbung post, Kangpokpi district Police, NAB and Forest department destroyed poppy plantation at Charkot hill range under Kangpokpi district on Wednesday.
Speaking on the sidelines, Sapermeina DSP L Sheiman Khongsai stated that the destruction of the poppy plantation spanning around 20 acres was carried out as part of the 'War on Drugs' initiative and a case registered for further investigation.
On the other-hand, PRO IGAR (S) informed that troops of Keithelmanbi Battalion of IGAR (S) assisted civil administration in destruction of illegal poppy cultivation at Nongdam Kuki Khul in Imphal East district on Wednesday.
Assam Rifles assisted Police, NCB and NAB in destruction of illegal poppy cultivation spread over approximately 25 acres of land in Nongdam Kuki Khul, the PRO said, adding that it is great step in sync with the civil administration's initiative of War Against Drugs 2.0 and would go a long way to curb the drug abuse in the state.
