Govt urged to cover all artistes under CMAT

The one-day open discussion on the topic 'Culture for Integrity' organised by Manipur Cultural Council (MCC) at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace compound on Thursday adopted 15 resolutions.
Among important points in the resolutions include coverage of all artistes of the state under Chief Minister-gi Artist Singgi Tengbang CMAT) without any condition.
Another resolution adopted during the open discussion moderated by MCC vice president and theatre director Ranbir Khoisnam was approaching and requesting the government to take up welfare scheme for artistes.
Another resolution also requested government to take up necessary steps to organise culture workshops, festivals and seminars throughout the year so that cultural institutes could survive.
The other resolutions include urging the government to release pension for elderly artistes in time, upgrade of art and culture department into a full-fledged department and allocation of fund in the state budget and implementation of Manipur Culture Policy.
In his keynote address at the open discussion, MCC secretary general Takhellambam Shyamkanhai said that Gurus, teachers and artistes belonging to different cultural organisations of the state are yet to get their entitled rights properly.
Even though the government has launched CMAT, the scheme could not cover all artistes of the state.
He also said that MCC was compelled to organise the convention to address grievances of artistes and it could be the first such convention in the history of Manipur.
The convention presided over by MCC president Kangjam Radha-kumar was also attended by academician and theatre director Arambam Lokendra, JNMDA former director and critic Longjam Joychandra, Manipur University of Culture vice chancellor Paonam Gunindro, PAL director and musicologist Nameirakpam Tiken and cultural activist Ningthouja Lancha, who shared their opinions.
