Imphal, March 31 2022:
Agriculture Minister Th Biswajit has assured of preventing any shortage of urea in the state from this year onwards.
On Thursday, minister Th Biswajit accompanied by Agriculture Department director Gojendra and other officials inspected the District Agriculture Office, Imphal West; Fertiliser Godown and Seed Grading machines set up in Lamphelpat.
Speaking on the sidelines, Biswajit assured of resolving the problem of shortage of urea faced by farmers during cultivation season every year, to the best of his abilities.
The central government has been allocating specific quantity of urea for the farmers of the state.
The state government would be taking up steps to lift the allocated urea ahead of time to avoid problems arising due to rainy season or bad road conditions, and ensure distribution of the same to the farmers in time.
Informing that he has been talking with the officials of the department, the minister said that a detailed discussion has been held on the inconveniences faced by farmers.
He then said that the department will provide the necessary seeds and machineries to the farmers.
As the Kharif crop season is set to begin from June, the department has already started planning for the same and the district agriculture officers have been intimated for discussing the issues faced in the respective districts, he added.
Meanwhile, farmers of Tamenglong, Chandel, Ukhrul and other hill districts have begun demanding urea and as such, the district agricultural officers are being consulted for addressing the same.
Efforts are being made to work out the amount of urea required as per the number of farmers and total area of agricultural land in the state, so as to cross-reference with the urea quota set by the central government and make necessary changes, if any, to prevent shortage of urea, Biswajit said.
