Combined force destroys poppy cultivation in Kangpokpi

Kangpokpi, January 17 2023:
A combined team of Kangpokpi Forest Division and police of Kangpokpi and Imphal East districts destroyed poppy plantations along the hill ranges of T Khullen and Lhangsom villages under Saikul Sub Division in Kangpokpi district.
The combined team led by Range Forest Officer/Headquar-ters, Kangpokpi Forest Division carried out the drive in T Khullen area where a total of 3.5 hectares of poppy plantations were destroyed while 17 hectares of area were found cleared of illegal poppy cultivation at Lhangsom hill ranges.
Along with poppy plants, huts and items found in the poppy cultivation area were also destroyed by the team.
The efforts to eradicate poppy plantation in the state with such drives shall continue in other poppy-cultivated areas of the state, the RFO added.
The RFO/headquarters, Kangpokpi forest division reiterated that breaking up of land for non-forestry purposes in notified forests of the country is a violation of rules laid down under the Indian Forest Act, 1927 read with Manipur Forest Rules, 2021.The divisional forest officer, Kangpokpi had already issued warnings to those indulging in such acts that actions will be taken up as per law.
