Iconic Events Week kick-starts Netaji birth anniversary

"Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Iconic Events Week" to commemorate the 126th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was held at INA Memorial, Moirang on Tuesday.
As chief guest of the commemorative event Works and YAS minister Govindas Konthoujam hoisted the national flag followed by band display on the tune of "Kadam Kadam Badhaye Ja".
Speaking on the occasion, minister Govindas called on the gathering to never forget the sacrifice and contribution of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose for the country's independence.
He also encouraged students to draw inspirations from Netaji's sacrifice and courage for a progressive India.
An inspiring 10-minute documentary film depicting the life of Netaji Subhas Chandra was screened to the audience during the celebration.
Khenjonglang Group also presented a moving docudrama on the life and work of Netaji for India's freedom.
Earlier in the day, Prabhat Pheri was carried out at Keithelmanbi to mark the occasion.
A drawing and painting competition on Netaji's life was also held at Nambol on Tuesday.
Besides, a blood donation camp as well mega free medical camp was also organised at Kangvai.
Other dignitaries attending the function included Moirang MLA Th Shanti Singh, Thanga MLA Tongbram Robindro, Loktak Development Authority chairman M Asnikumar, IGAR (South) Maj Gen Rajan Sharawat, and Brig Michael D'Souza of 27 Sector, Assam Rifles.
ADM Bishnupur H Bobby Sharma, AC to DC Ejaj Hassan, students, NCC cadets and several locals also attended the function.
It may be mentioned that after Manipur's events, the "Iconic Events Week" will be held in sequence in Nagaland, Gujarat, Odisha and West Bengal.
The culmination event is scheduled on January 23 at Port Blair, Andaman & Nicobar Islands with home minister Amit Shah as the chief guest.
The "Iconic Events Week" at Nambol was held with Education minister Th Basanta Singh as the chief guest.
In a release, PRO IGAR (S) informed that a painting competition was conducted at Imphal Peace Museum, Nambol as a part of the event.
A total of 500 students participated in the competition with full zeal and enthusiasm.
Patriotic songs and lectures on Subhash Chandra Bose were presented by different schools.
The event culminated with prize distribution by the chief guest to selected students.
Meanwhile, the Prabhat Pheri at Keithelmanbi Garrison was attended by Health minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh as chief guest.
The event had a healthy participation of approximately 800 individuals that included students, NCC cadets, Assam Rifles families and civil populace.
Patriotic songs and slogans during Prabhat Pheri aroused nationalistic fervour among one and all.
Mantripukhri Battalion of IGAR (South) also conducted Prabhat Pheri for the troops, families, children of HQ IGAR (S) and students of Assam Rifles Public School Mantripukhri to commemorate the Iconic Events Week in connection with Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav at Mantripukhri Garrison on Tuesday.
The event was witnessed by enthusiastic participation of 414 individuals including troops, families, teachers and students of Assam Rifles Public School Mantripukhri.
The event concluded with tea and refreshment.
