Imphal, January 17 2023:
Even as due preparations have been made for election of a new Manipur People's Party (MPP) president on January 28, a group has claimed that the scheduled election and the general conference are against the party's constitution.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here this afternoon, one Dr S Ibomcha who claimed to be a member of MPP Central Committee alleged that the electoral roll released by the MPP State Returning Officer (SRO) on January 12 violated the party's constitution.
He went on to claim that the elections held in different Assembly segments for election of Central Committee members, district presidents and delegates for the party's general conference scheduled on January 28 were unconstitutional.
During a conference held on December 14 last year, the interim committee removed the incumbent central committee members and in their place, people close to them (interim committee) were enlisted in the electoral roll.
Dr S Ibomcha said.
He maintained that the election for party president should be held only after a general conference of Central Committee members, district presidents and delegates recognised by the ECI and the High Court of Manipur is held.
He said that a representation has been submitted in this regard to the MPP interim president.
