Imphal, January 17 2023:
Former vice president of Manipur People's Party (MPP) Dr S Ibomcha has called for rectifying the electoral roll before conducting the election to the post of party president.
Addressing a press meet held at Manipur Press Club, here, on Tuesday, Dr S Ibomcha said that the electoral roll published as part of the order for conducting the election to the post of party president is against the constitution of the party.
He contended that the preparations made by the MPP State Returning Officer (SRO) for the general conference are unconstitutional.
The same can be said for the delegates, district presidents and central committee members who are going to be given the voting right in the party's presidential election.
The provision given in the party constitution regarding the delegates, who are to be appointed from among the members for voting in the presidential election has been violated, he maintained.
In addition, the general conferences held in constituencies to select the central committee members, district presidents and delegates were done in an unconstitutional manner, he alleged and urged for the central committees, district presidents and delegates, recognised by the ECI and the Manipur High Court, to contribute their voting right in the general conference and hold the presidential election.
Dr S Ibomcha then said that it is unconstitutional to remove the old members of the party and instead appoint new members who have joined the party barely 4-5 months back and lack knowledge of the party's principles, as delegates for the electing MPP president.
