Senapati, January 17 2023:
Tumuyon Khullen Village Authority (TKVA) has urged CAP & PD minister L Susindro Meitei not to include their village among the villages blacklisted for poppy plantations and move to stop NFSA benefits.
In a press communique, TKVA general secretary RK Lovingson stated the village has been sincerely cooperating with the state government in the 'War on Drugs' from the beginning.
Though neighbouring communities continued plantation of poppy in the past few years within the village's jurisdiction, volunteers of Tumuyon Khullen were able to control further plantation within their jurisdiction through repeated warnings through press releases and continuous destruction activities undertaken by them, it mentioned.
The village secretary also asserted that the district administration and the police department are witnesses to anti-poppy resolve and initiatives of the villagers.
The village had also submitted their poppy field destruction report to the chief minister along with all the evidences through the deputy commissioner concerned who had forwarded the same report on March 29, 2022, it pointed out.
TKVA also made a commitment to continue to cooperate with the government in the 'War on Drtigs' in the future.
The activities that they had taken up, spending lakhs of rupees from their own village fund were without any expectation of award or appreciation.
But everything was done with a vision to protect the forest and future generation, it maintained.
