Imphal, January 17 2023:
Kuki civil society organisations (CSO) of Churachandpur district reaffirmed their stand against illegal poppy cultivation in the dis trict and asked all concerned for complete destruction of poppy farms within 10 days.
Issuing a joint statement in this regard on Tuesday, Kuki Inpi Churachandur, Kuki Chiefs' Association Churachandpur, Kuki Khanglai Lawmpi GHQ and KSO Churachandpur informed that the unanimous decision of all Kuki CSOs of Churachandpur district to disengage from poppy cultivation in their respective villages have been heeded with positive note as villagers in large numbers turned out to destroy the plantation on a continuous momentum.
This is a clearer presentation of trust and fidelity emanating from the chiefs and all stakeholders as well.
The complete eradication drive on a sustained basis was agreed upon unconditionally since years back, yet some results don't seem favourable to the expectations of all.
However, with the pro-active stand adopted by the government machineries and all stake holders combined in recent times, the drive is progressing well, it stated.
"We also reiterate to affirm our strong resolve that within the lapse of 10 days from Tuesday, all demolition drive is expected to complete with satisfactory results.
In case of any defaulters after the expiry of the stipulated time frame, no one else will be let scot free," the joint statement cautioned.
