Imphal, January 17 2023:
Locals of Keirao Makting area organised a sit-in protest in front of Keirao Makting PHC on Tuesday demanding withdrawal of the transfer order of medical officer of the PHC Dr Naorem Sumani to Tamenglong district hospital.
Interacting with the media, a protestor said that the PHC was not functioning properly before Dr Sumani was posted there.
Ever since she came there, the medical officer put her best efforts to ensure proper functioning of the PHC and made it even 24/7 operational.
Transferring her to another hospital will lead the PHC to return to its former pitiable state, the protestor said while demanding the government to review the transfer order.
According ASHA worker Ahamad Bibi, Dr Sumani is a humble and down to earth person, who serves the public with dedication.
She has been in touch with the local residents regularly and treats them like family members.
So, the local people do not want her to leave the PHC.
Meanwhile, Keirao Makting PHC Development Committee chairman and social activist MI Khan said that Dr Sumani not only provides healthcare services with dedication, but also works for bringing unity and love among the different communities living under the jurisdiction of the PHC.
She has an impartial outlook to people of all communities.
Besides, her transfer to Tamenglong PHC is in violation of the transfer and posting policy of the state government notified in May, 2022.The notification stated that in case of both husband and wife serving under the state government, their posting should be arranged in the same district or same station as far as possible.
Dr Sumani's husband Dr Khaidem Tony is presently serving as senior resident at JNIMS pathology department and they have two small kids, MI Khan pointed out.
He then drew attention of the government to consider the conditions of the two small kids as well as the government's own transfer and posting policy, and review the transfer order of Dr Sumani.
