Ex-MLA Mirabai urges Govt to honour NG medallists

Former minister Ak Mirabai has said that the state government should encourage sportspersons of the state who won gold medals in the National Games held recently in Gujarat by providing them suitable jobs.
The government should also honour all the players who brought laurels for the state by winning medals in the just concluded National Games, Mirabai said, during a felicitation ceremony of cyclist Tongbram Manorama, who won one each gold, silver and bronze medal in the national games.
Addressing gathering at the felicitation event jointly organised by Patsoi Awang Development Association (PADA) and Patsoi Part-II Women Welfare Association, Ak Mirabai said that players of Manipur not only brought laurels but also made known the country and the state to the global community.
Manipur government has been encouraging players who brought laurels for the state and the same encouragement should be given to medallists of the just concluded National Games, she said.
According to Ak Mirabai, Tongbram Manorama had won more than 60 medals for Manipur with her latest achievement being one gold, one silver and one bronze medal in the Gujarat National Games.
Manorama currently works at Railways but she represented Manipur in the just concluded National Games, Mirabai said, adding that Manorama wishes to work in the state and bring laurel for the state by continuing her career.
She then urged the state government to honour Manorama and allow her to bring more laurels for the state in future.
The felicitation event was also attended by PADA president N Nabakumar, PAMYAN Patsoi president W Hemanta, Patsoi Part-II Women Welfare Association president M Pradima and YDO secretary Ch Naresh.
