Imphal, October 18 2022:
Six teachers who have been transferred to Sagolmang Higher Secondary School have not joined the school yet.
While an order to post 9 teachers was issued last month, only 3 have joined the school leaving students without adequate teachers, said Socialist Students' Union of Manipur (SSUM) .
At its office at Lalambung today, SSUM president S Yaima said the 6 teachers who have not yet joined the Sagolmang Higher Secondary School despite ordered to do so have been identified as Rabiya Khutheibam, Yumkhaibam Soniya, S Harimati, Rekha Kumari, Moshina Syed and Rockson Ningshan.
Questioning if the six teachers are above the Education Minister and the Education Department, Yaima said their refusal to join duty has revealed that they have no interest in teaching and educating students.
Those who have no interest in teaching students should not join the noble profession.
It is surprising that there are teachers who are above the Education Minister, Education Department and its Director, he said.
The aim of the Government launching the School Fagathansi Mission is laudable but it is disappointing that the mission has failed to reach Government schools outside Imphal.
With the Government yet to complete rationalization of teachers, many schools have been left without adequate teachers, he added.
The Sagolmang Higher Secondary has no teachers for Class XI and XII-Physics, Mathematics, History and Home Science.
If these vacancies are not filled within two days, SSUM along with students of the school would launch stringent agitations, said Yaima.
Teaching is a noble profession but those pretending to be teachers have maligned the image.
If only the 6 teachers had their wards/children enrolled in Government schools, they might have joined the school with dedication, he said, hinting that some teachers at Government schools are not dedicated enough in the conduct of their duties.
Meanwhile, the Government's step to recruit 1,000 Primary teachers is laudable.
However making TET (Teacher Eligibility Test) the sole criteria needs to be reconsidered, he opined, asserting that TET is not held regularly or every year.
The Government should consider giving a chance to those who have completed professional courses also, he said.
Yaima also appealed to the Government to declare the results of the Graduate teacher recruitment at the earliest and further recruit teachers to fill vacancies in schools and colleges across the State.
