SIMS case: JAC smells rat over police 'inaction'

Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in connection with the alleged rape and sexual harassment of a girl student by Saina Institute of Medical Science (SIMS) founder has ridiculed the police's clam of searching for those involved in the case as the accused people are seen active on social media frequently.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here on Tuesday, JAC convenor Laishram Roshini contended that all those involved in the case namely SIMS founder Yumnam Surjit Kumar and teachers SK Wahid Shah, Laishram Kunjarani and Yambem Nonibala alias Sonia are yet to be arrested till now.
The four accused filed anticipatory bail at the session court on September 31 but was rejected.
The High Court of Manipur also rejected similar bail on October 10.Yet, none of the accused has been arrested so far, she added.
The police are claiming to be in pursuit of the accused persons contrary to which the absconders have been active on social media without any hesitation, the JAC convenor reiterated and questioned whether the government is supporting criminals as the police have failed to arrest the accused till now.
As such, the four accused persons should be arrested within two days failing which intense form of agitations will be launched, she cautioned.
Recalling that the incident took place on August 14 last, she said that the vehicles used in committing the crime and the dresses worn by the victim are yet to be seized by the police.
Recently, T-shirt and shoes of the victim were returned after washing properly.
Such act tantamount to destroying the evidences, she asserted and suspected that the police are intentionally dragging their feet on the matter to enable the perpetrators destroy all the evidences.
In addition to 'this, the 'sprite bottle' used in making the victim unconscious is also not found.
Though blood sample of the victim girl was already collected to find out the contents in the 'sprite' given to her, the medical report has not been made public, she pointed out.
Roshini urged the people to support the JAC in finding out the truth about the incident and ensure justice to the victim.
