SMAT : Manipur suffer 9-wicket loss to Punjab

Manipur incurred a 9-wicket loss to IPL star-studded Punjab in their fifth Group B encounter of Syed Mustaq Ali Trophy at Sawai Mansingh Stadium Jaipur.
Manipur opted to bat first but were bundled out for a paltry total of 40 runs by Punjab who took only 5.3 overs to complete the chase.
Manipur had a disaster start losing Nitesh Sedai on 4-ball duck after being trapped lbw by Abhishek Sharma in the fourth ball of the first over.
Wickets of Saddam (0), Karnajit (2), Priyojit K (6), Langlonyamba (6) and Johnson (0) fell in quick succession as Punjab bowlers proved their mettle to reduce Manipur to 28 for 6 within 10.4 overs.
RK Rex added 25 off 23-balls before Manipur fell to 40 all out in 14.1 overs.
Mayank Markande was the pick of Punjab bowlers securing four wickets for 4 runs in 3.1 overs as Ramandeep Singh picked two for 10 runs in 2 overs.
In the chase, Bishworjit K dismissed Shubman Gill for 7 runs before Abhishek Sharma (28 not out) and Ramandeep Singh (7 not out) finished off the chase in 5.3 overs.
Manipur will play Tripura in the next match on October 18 .
