Imphal, October 18 2022:
Manipur Milk Producers Cooperative Union also known as Manipur Milk Union (MMU) has clarified that the Union is unable to clear the pending bills of dairy farmers owing to the absence of a regular Managing Director (MD) .
The above clarification was given by Ch Ramananda, Chairman of the Union while addressing media persons during a press meet held today in connection with the locking of the Chairman's office by irate dairy farmers due to non-clearance of bills.
He informed that the general body meeting of MMU was held on July 11 this year at GM Hall attended by 116 members.
During the meeting, it was resolved to elect Dr Ch Nandakishore, former Director of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry (Vety & AH) Services as the MD of the Union as per the instruction of the Central Government to make MMU as a self-governing body, he added.
He went on to inform that approvals were sought from Vety & AH Services and Cooperative Department to materialise the resolution and the general body meeting of Board Of Directors of the Union held in August and October also decided to urge the authorities concerned for the same.
'However the Vety & AH Services issued a notice on October 12, 2022 thereby appointing Dr Krishnamohon, Joint Director, Vety & AH Services, Chandel as the MD of MMU on temporary basis creating a state of unrest in the Union', he said.
Ramananda clarified that owing to the above situation, the Union is unable to clear the bills of dairy farmers since signature is needed for both the MD and the Chairman during fund transactions of the Union.
The pending bill is for one month only and not for three months, he continued.
He further clarified that there is no intention to withhold the bills of the dairy farmers.
Lastly he sought for support and cooperation from the dairy farmers for efficient functioning of the Union which is being run on projects under the Central Government Scheme on National Programme on Dairy Development.
