Sit-in staged against liquor legalisation

Imphal, October 18 2022:
In continuation of its protest against legalisation of liquor, Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol (CADA) in association with All Manipur Women Social Reformation & Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj), NIMPAL, Women Welfare Association and Langjing Awang Maning Leikai staged a sit-in protest on Tuesday.
According to a release issued by CADA Information & Publicity secretary Khundongbam Anand, the protestors shouted slogans during the sit-in, demanding withdrawal of the government's decision to legalise liquor so as to save the life of the people, particularly women of the state Speaking on the sidelines, NIMPAL secretary Soraisam Shanti remarked that the Manipur government is making a mockery of Nishaband movement, which was started to save our children from influence of drugs and alcohol.
However, the government cannot hope to fool the people by stating the consumption of quality will save lives, she said and demanded the government to roll-back its decision.
