Manipur State Indigenous Wrestling Championship-2022 to begin from Nov 23

The Senapati District Wrestling Association, Manipur (SDWAM) has officially announced to kick-start the first State level "Manipur State Indigenous Wrestling Championship, 2022" from November 23.The event is reported to organise in association with Sangai Festival 2022 sponsored by the State Government.
Addressing media persons regarding this at the SDWAM office, RK Gideon who is general secretary of the association stated that entry (fee Rs 1000) process for the championship has commenced from October 17 at SDWAM office and the last date of submission of forms will be November 17, 2022 .
The 4-day event would be held at Mini Stadium, Senapati district headquarters, he said while adding that the event will be hosted by Makhrelui villages, Senapati and will see athletes in two weight categories -Heavy weight (65 kg and above) and Light weight (below 65 kg) compete for top honours.
Winners in both categories would be awarded with Rs 1 lakh while runner up, third placed and fourth placed athletes will receive cash prize of Rs 70,000; 50,000 and 30,000 respectively, he said.
Division of categories and oath taking is slated for November 21 and fixtures of the players will be announced the next day, he added.
Mention may be made that the previous open wrestling competition held in 2018 witnessed with nearly 200 wrestlers including some from Nagaland.
The organisers mentioned that although the event would be a State level, it is expected that more than 200 wrestlers may take part in this year's events.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh is likely to grace the inaugural session as chief guest.
