Imphal, October 18 2022:
Refuting the allegations levelled by a woman vendor of Imoinu Ima Keithel, Khwairamband Nupi Keithel Sinfam Amadi Saktam Kanba Lup (KNKSASKL) has asked the woman vendor and her companions to stop duping innocent women vendors of Khwairamband Keithel by collecting signatures on blank paper and collecting Aadhaar copies.
Addressing a press meet jointly hosted by KNKSASKL and Khwairamband Nupi Keithel Semgat Sagatpa Lup on Tuesday, KNKSASKL secretary Thingujam Rani said that Khwairamband Keithel is experiencing downfall in the last decade with factory-made cheap imitation products flooding the nearby shops.
As street vendors and online shopping are posing threat to the trade of the women vendors, they have been demanding the government to look into the matter and take up necessary initiatives to salvage the situation, she said.
Even as the government gave assurance of resolving the issue of street vendors before Ningol Chakkouba, some women vendors are trying to weaken unity of the women vendors by spreading misleading information, she said, and recounted that recently, one such vendor Huirem Binodini made a statement to the media alleging the organisation's finance secretary Kongbrailatpam Shilabati (Pakpi) of playing a hidden agenda and threatening the identity of Khwairamband Keithel.
Taking serious note of the allegation, she demanded Binodini and her companions to bring out proof of their allegation, failing which they will seek legal help and file defamation suit against them.
She also questioned the reason for creating issue over the construction of shops on the upper floor of the mar ket complexes after they have given their agreement during several talks held with the government.
She then asked the woman vendor and her companions to stop indulging in nuisance for their own individual interest.
