Rhythms of Manipur wows Japanese audience

Rhythms of Manipur enthralled the people of Japan with its performance at the First India-Matsuri Kyoto Festival-2022, which was held on October 19 and 20 in Kyoto, the erstwhile capital and cultural city of Japan.
A 14-member team of Rhythms of Manipur presented performances of Maibi Jagoi, drum, Thougal Jajoi, Pung Cholom and Dhol Cholom along with a national award-winning music composition during the festival.
The team returned to Imphal on Wednesday Organised by Indian Chambers of Commerce, Japan in collaboration with Consulate General of India, Osaka, Kobe; the festival was attended by Kyoto mayor Daisaku Kadokawa, Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) president Dr Vinay Sahasrabuddhe; Consul General of India, Kobe Nikhilesh Giri and Indian Chambers of Commerce, Japan secretary Shitoru Roy along with the people of Japan, India and other tourists.
The festival was also participated by other artistes from Japan and India.
In addition to yoga performances, the festival also opened various food and handicraft stalls.
Mention may be made here that the costume designs of the artistes of Rhythms of Manipur had been sponsored by Robert Naorem.
This is the seventh international performance of the group.
Previously, the group performed in Dimapur and Hong Kong in 2013 under the sponsorship of ICCR; Laos and Trinidad in 2017; Surin, Thailand in 2018 and in Bangkok in 2022 .
