Sit-ins protest liquor legalisation

Imphal, November 02 2022:
Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol (CADA) along with other women organisations continued their sit-in protests against the government's decision for legalisation of liquor by staging sit-in protests on Wednesday.
In a release, CADA information and publicity secretary Khundongbam Anand stated that sit-in protest was organised by All Manipur Women Social Reformation & Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj), The Thoubal District United Women's Development Organisation (Thoubal Ima), Tekcham Laibung Leikai Meira Paibi and CADA at Tekcham Laibung, Thoubal district.
Similarly, Nupi Samaj and CADA organised sit-in protest at Nambol Takhel Konjil, Imphal West district during which one Laishram (o) Sanajaobi asserted that as a meira paibi activist she cannot accept government's decision and it must revoke the order for the welfare of the public.
On the other hand, Thang Ta Leadership Manipur member Thounaojam Priyokumar, who was present at the protest, stated that parents and guardians must ensure that youth of the state stay away from liquor and other intoxicants to ensure a fit and healthy society.
CADA further mentioned that the protestors held placards denouncing the government's decision as well as shouted slogans against legalisation of liquor in the state.
