MLA Arunkumar assures development of Mao Keithel

Mao Imphal Market Coordination Committee hosted Hiyangei Mao Ningol Chakkouba for women vendors from Mao as part of this year's Ningol Chakkouba festival at Mao Keithel Complex, near DMU campus here, on Wednesday.
Speaking as chief guest of the event, Wangkhei MLA Thangjam Arunkumar underscored the beauty and significance of Ningol Chakkouba and thanked the committee for hosting the event while expressing hope that this would help in strengthening the relationship among the indigenous communities of the state.
Mao is a fertile land and people in the valley area are getting the opportunity to taste the farm products of Mao without going there due to the presence of Mao Keithel in Imphal itself, he said while calling for protecting the market complex.
He also urged the farmers to put their focus on producing organic products.
The MLA said that the market is not only a centre for socio-economic development of the people but also a platform for emotional integrity.
While assuring all possible assistance from his side in developing the market further, the MLA urged the vendors to bring up any issue they face for swift resolution.
Women vendors from Mao, who participated in the festival, expressed gratitude to the committee for hosting the festival The market has strengthened the hill-valley relationship, they said and urged the government to develop a permanent market complex and set up a cold storage unit.
Mao Imphal Market Coordination Committee chairman Besii Pfoze Mao presided over the event while committee advisor and award-winning social activist Ibotombi Khuman attended as guest of honour.
Leaders and representatives of the committee's constituent units IPSA, ACOAM-Lup, IPAK, PANDM, KANGLAMEI, KIL, CLK, KSA, Mao Union Imphal and Mao Women Business Union also participated in the event.
Apart from a grant feast and presentation of gifts, the committee also organised a tour programme for the participants.
