Imphal, November 02 2022:
Street vendors of Khwairamband Keithel staged a sit-in protest today demanding Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) to allow them to sell goods at the Temporary Market Shed.
A large number of street vendors staged the sit-in protest at the complex of the IMC near MG Avenue.
More than 200 street vendors stormed the complex of the IMC and opened their stalls and protested raising several slogans demanding their place at the Khwairamband Keithel.
During the protest, Khwairamband Keithel Street Vendors' Welfare Union president L Beda said, the street vendors have not been able to open their stalls at the Temporary Market even though they were asked to use the shed by the IMC on October 17 .

"The IMC had issued an order giving permission to street vendors to open their stalls at the Temporary Market on October 17.However, when we arrived at the Temporary Market the next day, we found the place occupied by other vendors," she said.
She said the street vendors protesting today had been using the Temporary Market before the IMC closed the market shed to all street vendors three months ago.
When they attempted to open stalls at the Temporary Market following the IMC order of October 17, they were forced out by the vendors who were found occupying the place, she said.
Claiming that the same order also included a direction to open stalls on a rotational basis, she appealed to the IMC and the Government to enforce the order and allow them to open stalls at the Temporary Market.
