Interaction programmes held at jail and CCIs

As part of the celebration of 75th year of Independence, Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) organised interaction programmes at the jail and Child Care Institutions.
The interaction programme is being held from October 31 to November 13 as per the directive of Chief Justice of India (designated) and NALSA executive chairman Justice Dr DY Chandrachud, who launched the Campaign Haq Hamara @75' in New Delhi on October 31.During the observance period, pan-India programmes including spreading legal awareness and providing legal aid to outreach-eligible beneficiaries and also to institutions and vulnerable sections of the society, as a form of empowering the citizens are being conducted.
'Campaign Haq Hamara @75' will be carried out to provide legal aid to jail inmates and child care institutions.
In Manipur, MASLSA organised an interaction programme at Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa and Central Jail, Imphal as part of the 'Haq Hamara Bhi Toh Hain @ 75' on November 1 .
The programme was attended by MASLSA member secretary Ojesh Mutum and additional member secretary Bineshwori Maibam, jail officials, panel lawyer and PLVs with prison field teams.
A virtual interaction programme was also organised by District Legal Services Authority of Imphal East, Thoubal, Tamenglong, Senapati and Ukhrul with the superintendents of observation homes regarding issues related to children staying at child care institutions.
The main objective of the campaign is to inform the jail inmates of the important need of being represented by a lawyer during trial, bail application or filing an appeal; providing free legal counsel or service of assistance with regard to drafting of application; information about the present status of the case and maintaining communication with the lawyer; allowing the inmates to communicate with his/her family and friends, including virtual meeting in case Of inconvenience in physical meeting; access to immediate medical care, etc.
For children staying in childcare institutions, the initiatives include allowing the lawyers to represent them, in addition to making the children aware about the present status of the case and maintaining communication with the parents/guardians.
