Misuse of ₹1.83 cr for Wangoi MC suspected

Suspicious of misappropriating fund for different works/projects worth around Rs 1.83 crore since the year 2017, SP (vigilance and anti-corruption), Manipur has sent a written notice to executive officer of Wangoi Municipal Council for submitting relevant documents of the said works by July 12.The notice issued on July 6 informed Wangoi Municipal Council executive officer to submit DPR (Detailed Project Report), administrative sanction, technical sanction, work order, measurement of book and completion certificate for 10 different works taken up by the Council from 2017 to 2021 within July 12 .
Some notable works supposedly taken up during the period include construction of segregation shed at Ngakhong Mahil under third state finance commission (2019,-20), construction of segregation shed cum transfer station for door-to-door collection of waste near Wangoi Municipal Council office under the 15th Finance Commission (2020-21), construction of compound fencing on the southern and western side of segregation shed of Ngakhong Maril under 14th Finance Commission (second instalment 2017-18) and construction of composite pit and flooring and segregation shed at Ngakhong Maril under 14th Finance Commission (first and second instalment 2019-20) .
Apart from these works, the Vigilance Department also demanded documents relating to purchase of a tipper truck of the council, work programmes for 14th (2018-19) and 15th finance commissions (2020-21), purchase of four e-rickshaws and others.
Notably, former chairperson of the Council Longjam Babita had on July 3 written a letter to the chief minister proposing constitution of an enquiry committee for initiating a departmental enquiry against executive officer of the council namely Th Sanahal.
The letter also mentioned that SP (vigilance and anti-corruption), Manipur had taken up a case based on a written submission made on July 23, 2018 but enquiry of the case remained pending since then.
