Zeliangrong CSOs appeal ZUF factions for restraint, dialogue

Imphal, September 04 2026: A number of Zeliangrong civil organisations have appealed to both the Zeliangrong United Front (K) and the Zeliangrong United Front (J) to "exercise utmost restraint, wisdom and responsibility, and to choose the path of peace, dialogue and peaceful co-existence" .

In a joint statement, the bodies, including the Zeliangrong Baudi Assam, Zeme Council Assam, Zeme Students' Union Assam, Zeliangrong Students' Union Assam, Zeliangrong Mipui Association Assam, Zeme Pui Baudi Assam, Zeliangrong Youth Front Assam and Rongmei Naga Council Assam, said the ZUF factions should not allow their differences to become a source of lasting division and confrontation.

"Whatever disagreements or differences may exist between the two groups, they must not be allowed to become a source of lasting division, confrontation or suffering among our own people.

We appeal to both sides to put the interests and safety of the Zeliangrong people above organizational differences.

Guns and confrontation cannot heal wounds, rebuild trust and secure a peaceful future for our community.

Only dialogue, mutual respect and a sincere commitment to reconciliation can provide a lasting solution," said the Zeliangrong civil organisations.

The CSOs urged the ZUF factions to exercise immediate restraint and refrain from any action that may lead to violence, retaliation, or further escalation of the situation.

"We urge both sides to resolve their differences through dialogue, mutual understanding, and peaceful negotiations, while respecting the traditional institutions, elders, and community leaders who can play a vital role in facilitating reconciliation" .

The Zeliangrong family has endured many challenges throughout history.

"We must not allow our differences today to become wounds that divide generations tomorrow," the CSOs said.

"Our unity must not mean that we agree on everything.

Rather, it means that despite our differences, we recognize one another as members of the same Zeliangrong family," said the civil bodies.
