Imphal, July 09 2022:
Thangmeiband AC MLA Kh Joykisan has stressed the need on the part of the state government to investigate who is behind the constant killings of minority non-locals in the state over the past one month.
On Saturday, Joykisan met and extended his condolences to the families of Sailendra, who was shot dead by unknown people at Uchol Chingjin under Andro PS on Friday.
Extending financial aid to the deceased man's family, the MLA condemned the killing of Sailendra, who had come to Manipur from Bihar and was hawking goods on his two-wheeler.
While pointing out that many Manipuris are residing in other parts of the country, he urged the state government to investigate who is responsible for the killings of non-locals over the past one month.
Although the state had insurgency problem at one time, they could be excluded from the suspect pool in the present cases.
However, if an insurgent group is indeed responsible for the killings, they should clarify the reason for the same so as to allay the suspicions in the minds of the people and lessen the grief of the bereaved families, he urged.
Stating that time has come for taking up security measures in this regard, Joykisan further urged for strengthening the security at places where the non-locals work.
He then appealed to the minorities not to panic, while adding that he would consult with the CM for putting in place strict security measures.
Meanwhile, Hindustani Samaj president Madan Singh has questioned the reason behind the heinous killing of non-locals in Manipur and the fault of minorities for which they have to pay with their lives.
"If the minorities are not allowed to live in Manipur, then please state it directly instead of resorting to murder", he said.
